In March of 2011 Buckeye, AZ passed the first Social Host Ordinance in Maricopa County. The goal of the Way Out West Coalition is to educate the public on this new law and how it helps our community to prevent underage drinking as well as reducing drug use among our youth. The purpose of this law is to to protect our kids from adults who are providing alcohol to youth. Underage drinking is the leading cause of preventable deaths among young people in the United States. Alcohol can seriously damage adolescent brain growth. Adolescent drinkers perform worse in school, have increased risk of social problems, depression, suicidal thoughts and violence.
